The Adelaide Hills – A Rich Selection of World Class Vineyards

When you think of South Australia’s wine region, visions of sweeping hills filled with vines and stunning views jump to mind. It’s easy to understand why the South Australia is one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world, offering a rich history to locals and tourists. At Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant, we count ourselves lucky to be situated so close to some of the best wineries in the country.

If you’re visiting South Australia soon, whether it’s for a dining experience at our restaurant or a weekend getaway at the heritage Mount Lofty House, or even if you’d like to explore your own backyard, there are a number of wineries to visit if you’d like to explore the incomparable history that South Australia has to offer.

Six Generations of Winemakers at Henschke Wines

Henschke Wines is one of South Australia’s premier wineries, and proudly a member of Australia’s First Families of Wines. The first vines on the Hill of Grace vineyard were planted by Nicolaus Stanitzki in 1860, the same year a beautiful church was built in the village. Cyril Henschke first created Hill of Grace in 1958, which has since become an icon. Engage in the history of Henschke Wines and explore their breathtaking and sustainable vineyards near Keyneton for an unforgettable day out.

Superb Offerings at Tapanappa Tiers Vineyards

Located just a short drive from our perch here on Mount Lofty, in the postcard perfect Piccadilly Valley is the Tiers Chardonnay Vineyard which is often considered a South Australia viticultural icon and treasure. The Tiers Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards located in the Adelaide Hills, first planted in 1979 by Brian Croser and still consistently produces superb cool climate wines. Chardonnay lovers will enjoy the rich history of the vineyard, while learning about the traditional vinification process, but we won’t give too much just yet.
Grosset Wines; Celebrating 25 Consecutive Vintages

Grosset Wines was established in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset in the gorgeous Clare Valley. Named after the Ancient Greek Goddess of the Earth, Gaia is Jeffrey’s single vineyard Cabernet blend and is now celebrating an outstanding 25 consecutive vintage releases. When visiting the Grosset cellar door, located in a building previously used as a butter and ice factory in the early 1900s as you learn more about the Grosset family and their impact on the Australian wine industry.
