Occasion Dining in the Adelaide Hills

Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 for Arthur Hardy. It was his summer residence, but it also became a venue for the most lavish parties, where Arthur would take great delight in hosting Adelaide’s high society. Today, the space has been transformed into Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant – true to the refinement, elegance and opulence the guests of Arthur Hardy enjoyed 165 years ago.

With people flocking to the area in search of the best restaurants in Adelaide Hills, our restaurant, which overlooks the patchwork Piccadilly Valley, offers diners magnificent views accompanied by either our short and long story tasting menus.

Our sommeliers provide their wine matching services to provide the perfect complement to your dining experience, allowing you to experience both the flavours we create and the tastes of the wineries which surround restaurants in the Adelaide Hills. Delve into the timeless dining experience which saw HVR awarded ‘Best Restaurant’ in the recent AHA Awards, 3 Chef Hats and #3 in South Australia by the Australian Good Food Guide.

HVR is open seven days from 6pm for alacarte dinner with our degustation menu available Thursday to Sunday. To experience an Adelaide Hills lunch that will leave a lasting impression, our restaurant is open from 12pm Saturday and Sunday for both our alacarte and degustation menus.

Casual Dining in the Adelaide Hills

Arthur Waterhouse was the second owner of Mount Lofty House. While Arthur Hardy was known for lavish parties for Adelaide's elite, Arthur Waterhouse took a more relaxed approach to life and enjoyed nothing more than relaxing in his lounge and enjoying a casual meal with friends. Like Waterhouse, our shared style menu is relaxed and suited to sharing with friends whilst enjoying the sweeping views of the winery surrounds. Inspired by the beautiful produce of the Piccadilly valley, and the raw nature of fire. Dishes are served as they come from the kitchen.

Nestled amongst the renowned wineries in Adelaide Hills, our bar is open seven days from 12pm onwards for lunch and dinner.
